Lachlan has over 16 years experience teaching both Drumkit and Orchestral Percussion instruments. He holds a Diploma and Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Adelaide, where he majored in Jazz Drumkit and Mallet Percussion. He has worked in some of the leading public and private schools across Melbourne and as the examiner for the VCAA.
Lachlan has been a finalist in Australia's Best Up and Coming Drummer Competition and has performed with the likes of the The Australian Pops and Philharmonic Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Marina Prior, Andy Firth, and Mark Levine. He currently performs regularly around Melbourne in the jazz and corporate scene.
Picking up the guitar and starting his first rock band at sixteen, Kera went on to study music, philosophy, and education at the University of Melbourne and Victoria University. Kera has played in rock and jazz bands, created electronic and hip hop music, collaborated with DJs and string quartets, and now leads an electric guitar ensemble. Choosing a favourite guitarist is impossible for Kera, but some of his favourite composers and bands include Igor Stravinsky, Miles Davis, Kraftwerk, Nirvana and Hans Zimmer. Beyond music and philosophy Kera enjoys contemporary art and good coffee.
James has been teaching at Learn Music for over 25 years. After completing a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University he furthered his passion and completed 3 years of Jazz Studies at the Victorian College of the Arts. He has taught at the VCA and Monash University as well as many ongoing private students. His musical tastes and influences are many and varied and he has been a member of many groups.
Magdalen is a classical pianist with a Bachelor of Music and Diploma of Education from the conservatorium at the University of Melbourne. She specialises in teaching Classical Piano, but encourages branching out to as many styles as possible and covering all aspects of musicality such as theory and aural training. Her musical influences range widely from Beethoven to David Bowie. Aside from teaching, Magdalen has also worked as an accompanist with many solo musicians and chamber ensembles in both Melbourne and Israel, where she lived for a few years.
Maxim has been playing the violin for sixteen years. He attained a Bachelor of Music (Honours) in violin performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 2016. He has been teaching violin privately and in schools (both primary and secondary) for the past four years. He is currently undertaking the Suzuki Primary Accreditation course for violin and is an Approved Teaching in Training.
Maxim is flexible in his teaching approach and sensitive to the varying needs, desires and abilities of different students. He always strives to share his passion of music with his students in order to inspire them to love music and persist in their efforts.
Nick has been playing the electric bass and guitar for 26 years and has been teaching for the last 11. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1998 from Southern Cross University. He has performed in a vast array of different bands from Blues to Rock to Jazz to Funk. Nick has a deep passion for education and prides himself on his ability to balance fun and discipline during his lessons. Nick has an intuitive understanding of different learning styles and knows how to motivate students in a safe and comfortable environment.
Karen has finished both ABRSM and Trinity piano Grade 8. She is classically trained and a graduate of Middlesex University London with a Master in Music and Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Music. She has also completed her JSAC Yamaha Music Courses. Karen is a dedicated and caring teacher with 15 years experience. She takes each student's individual strength and area of challenges into account to bring out the absolute best in each one of them.
Yiannis taught piano for over 10 years in Perth before recently moving to Melbourne. He holds a Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the University of Western Australia.
As well as being a dedicated teacher, Yiannis has worked in many musical roles including accompanist, musical director, and piano technician. Having worn a number of musical hats himself, he encourages his students to develop broad musicianship skills, while recognising their individual strengths and interests.
Hiroki is a professional musician active in Melbourne, specialising in the Jazz, pop and contemporary scene on double and electric bass. He is classically trained on piano, attaining an Associate Diploma from AMEB in 2008, and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Performance with High Distinction from Monash University in 2015. Currently undertaking study in Honours in Music Performance at Monash. Career highlights include concerts with Lea Salonga (Philippines/USA, vocalist from Disney's 'Aladdin' and 'Mulan'), Paul Grabowsky (Australia, pianist and composer). Maria Schneider (USA, composer and band leader), Terence Blanchard (USA, trumpeter) and Enrico Rava (Italy, trumpeter). He is able able to teach all styles on piano, double and electric bass.
Phoebe holds a Bachelor of Applied Music Performance and is a working musician in a variety of bands with a passion for jazz and soul, having performed throughout Melbourne and interstate at wide-ranging festivals and performances including Melbourne International Jazz Festival. She is a passionate musician, composer and dedicated teacher.
Phoebe individualises each lesson to inspire students and make the learning experience fun while achieving their goals. She has taught piano across all ages both privately and in schools, offering a wealth of experience in teaching, composing and performing.
Marco has been playing drums for 17 years and has done session work with many artists including Harry James (Cat Empire), Daniel Merriweather, and jan Scubiswenski (Jackson Jackson). Marco has toured internationally with artists such as True Live and Raah Project. More recently, Marco works regularly in the corporate music scene for agencies including The White Tree, full Circle, and Baker Boys Band. Marco is inspired by many musicians and his main influences include Chris "Daddy" Dave, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams and George "Spanky" Mcurdy to name a few. Marcos hobbies outside of music include playing and watching soccer, and reading.
Matt is a musician, guitarist/vocalist, teacher, (specialising in jazz) and a music producer. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (contemporary music)Honours Degree, University of Melbourne. Diploma of Music (MWT Institute)
Matt has performed in many bands such as Vince Jones, been the opening act for Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass, Neils-Henning Orsted Pederson and Stevie Wonder. He has ben on National TV as a regular member of Wilber Wildes Blowout. He has played with Paul Grabowsky, David Jones, Marcia Hines and his own Matt Kirsch Trio. He has recorded with Ross Wilson and man other well known names.
He is currently a sessional guitar tutor, assessor for Honours Students final exams and guitar master classes.
Anna did her Bachelors of Music in London at the Royal College of music, studying the piano with John Blakely and Ruth Gerald. She went on to study accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music, as the recipient of a Winifred Disney Scholarship. She taught the piano at Emanuel School and Eltham College while continuing to perform. A specialist in ABRSM exams, Anna moved to Melbourne in 2008 and commenced teaching at Learn Music in the same year. She has recently returned to Melbourne after period in Princeton in the US, and is delighted to resume her teaching here. As well as continuing her work as an accompanist, Anna is currently pursuing a Masters in musicology at Melbourne University focusing on French music in early twentieth Century England.
David started his piano lessons in early primary school days and in 2001, he obtained his Advance Diploma from Yamaha Academy of Music Malaysia, followed by BA (Hon) Music Degree from Middlesex University in London. His passion in research methodology and piano performance brought him back to his his alma mater in 2009, where he successfully completed his Master Degree 2 years later. As a piano tutor for 15 years, he believes music nurtures and moulds good personality, apart from acquiring skills in musicianship that last a lifetime.
Nooshin is a highly trained piano and singing teacher with over than 11 years teaching experience in Australia and overseas. She has completed a Bachelor of Applied Music (composition), Graduate DIploma of Music and Masters of Music (Contemporary Practice). She is also an experienced composer/arranger and songwriter. Since moving to Australia 6 years ago, Nooshin has been performing in concerts and composing music which one of them was played by the Melbourne Army Big Band. One piece of music she arranged that she also sung on "Don't Worry Girl" was nominated for the best music video in the Martini Film Festival.
Nooshin has a comprehensive knowledge in music theory, composition, arrangements, and film scoring as well. She strives to get the best out of her students, shares her in depth knowledge in the best and easiest way building a great bond with all. She motivates and inspires them to aim high, gives students all tools and resources required to build confidence to grow as an artist on their unique music journey to achieve their goals.
Sam completed a Bachelor of Music Performance in 2010 at the University of Melbourne. The major instrument being contemporary guitar while the minor instrument was classical guitar. Since then, Sam has worked professionally as a performer on the local Australian music scene and abroad in Europe and America. Time spent in France performing and learning the style of Django Reinhardt have allowed him to become a leading voice on Django inspired music in Australia. Similarly Sam's in depth knowledge of Jazz has been underscored with long stays in New Orleans and New York, both spiritual homelands of Jazz.
Sam has all the wile been a committed and passionate teacher, intent on helping others learn and participate in the shared joy and friendship of playing music.
